According to KhabarOnline, Mohammad Rastgari, the head of the Environmental Protection Department of Tehran County, highlighted the measures taken to enhance the environmental performance of accommodation centers. He stated that warnings and directives regarding the necessity of adhering to environmental requirements have been issued for ten hotels, and the implementation of the recommendations made by the experts of this department is being continuously monitored.
Regarding the details of these warnings, Rastgari noted that services such as hotels and accommodation centers are required to comply with environmental considerations. In terms of wastewater management, the environment does not mandate a specific method for these units; they can either construct a treatment plant or utilize other methods. However, their performance will be monitored.
He added that out of 96 units, 66 were inspected and monitored, among which ten units lacked a treatment plant or proper connection to the sewage network, resulting in their wastewater being discharged directly into a well. Given the importance of maintaining the quality of groundwater resources and preventing their contamination, warnings were issued to these units.
Rastgari continued, stating that in the initial phase, these units have been asked to rectify their issues or provide a timeline for corrective actions, which will be pursued accordingly. Should they remain unresponsive, legal measures will be employed.
He also referred to other environmental requirements for hotels, mentioning that aspects such as heating systems are under review. Boiler rooms must comply with Article 17 of the Clean Air Law by undergoing technical inspections, and the establishment of green spaces in these units is another matter being pursued.
Regarding the status of waste management, Rastgari explained that the waste from service units is managed by municipalities. If any violations are observed, a warning will be issued first. If a unit fails to address the pollution or does not provide a timeline for remediation, it will be subject to penalties amounting to half to one and a half percent of its sales, payable to the relevant accounts for associated actions.
