Second Marine Patrol for Shrimp Stock Assessment Begins in Bushehr Waters

According to the Mehrnews, Alireza Ghadei addressed reporters on Saturday evening, highlighting the implementation of this project in collaboration with the Fisheries Department and relevant agencies. He stated that this research cruise, which continues from initial investigations, is designed to determine the precise timing for the start of the shrimp fishing season based on scientific calculations.

The head of the National Shrimp Research Institute added that this research cruise is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Mostafa Gholipour, a veterinary specialist in aquatic health and diseases, along with researchers from the National Shrimp Research Institute. He mentioned that researchers will be examining and analyzing indicators such as abundance, distribution, length-weight structure, sexual maturity, and CPUE through netting and sampling at designated stations in the Persian Gulf.

Emphasizing the economic and ecological value of the green tiger shrimp in the Persian Gulf, he noted that the results of these assessments will serve as the basis for determining when the shrimp reach the minimum legal length (12 centimeters), thereby preventing the capture of immature shrimp. This approach will also enhance the productivity of fishermen and reduce the environmental damage caused by trawling.

He stated that the final results of this research cruise, after data processing, will be provided to the fishing management committee of Bushehr Province for decision-making regarding the official start of the shrimp fishing season and for assessing the stocks of this valuable and economically significant species in the Persian Gulf.
