In an interview with Mehrnews, Amin Karimi stated that as the shrimp fishing season approaches, experts from the Veterinary Organization of Bushehr County have conducted health assessments and inspections at six fishing docks in the region. These inspections focused on the sanitary conditions of fishing vessels, equipment, storage tanks for catches, ice usage, cleanliness of the vessels, and adherence to health regulations.
He added that maintaining hygiene standards is a crucial first link in the production and supply chain of aquatic products, playing a decisive role in preserving shrimp quality, preventing microbial contamination, and extending product shelf life, ultimately leading to the provision of healthy food and safeguarding consumer health.
The head of the Veterinary Organization of Bushehr County emphasized the importance of preventive veterinary oversight, stating that inspections of fishing vessels before the start of the fishing season not only ensure the vessels’ sanitary readiness but also facilitate compliance with health standards during the stages of catching, storing, transporting, and unloading aquatic products, thus preventing a decline in the quality of fishery products.
Karimi continued that during these visits, necessary training and recommendations were provided to fishermen and operators, emphasizing the use of hygienic ice, continuous washing and disinfection of equipment, proper storage of catches at standard temperatures, and full adherence to the health guidelines set by the Veterinary Organization of the country.
He noted that veterinary health inspections are not limited to the pre-fishing season but will continue throughout the season at docks, vessels, and unloading and distribution centers to ensure that high-quality, safe, and hygienic seafood reaches consumers.
In conclusion, the head of the Veterinary Organization of Bushehr County underscored the role of veterinary services in protecting community health, stating that monitoring the production and supply chain of aquatic products is one of the key missions of veterinary services. The implementation of these programs plays a significant role in enhancing food security, supporting producers, and increasing consumer confidence in the safety of fishery products.
